Day 29 – 40 Days for Life
Feria in Lent
Again, the harsh winds coupled with the bitter temperatures at the corner of Berri and St. Catherine Streets could be the highlight of the day but for the tears which I shed in midafternoon.
This is the second time that I have moved to tears during the current vigil. The first time came a week ago when a visitor shared a personal tale of charity in which I could see the hand of God working through him to redress a couple who have strayed from the path of plentiful life.
On this day, in late afternoon, Eugene stopped by the vigil and his reflections and probing questions stirred our conversation and brought to bear on fundamental principles. This discussion which began on paradigms led to a discussion of Christ and His two commandments of love – 1. love one’s neighbour as oneself and 2. loving one another as He has loved us. I saw in Eugene an open soul, one receptive of Christ's message and was thereby brought to tears of joy, of gratitude for such an open person, compliant to these precepts.
